Theme Thursday - Stone

There's a lot of stone up here in the mountains. Being so prevalent in and on the ground, it's the chief building material. But it's a bit more dramatic when it's still in the ground.

The owners of the property known as Rocky Knoll, overlooking West King St. in Shippensburg, seem to have given their rock outcropping a romantic name. The original Govardhan Hill is in India near Vrindavan and is sacred to devotees of the god Krishna. I guess the people who live in Rocky Knoll must have some connection to or interest in Hinduism. That's very unusual in this very Bible Belt area; I think I need to meet these people. Heh, heh!

Atop that large rock is the former site of Fort Morris, an important part of the French and Indian War (1754 - 1763). It was part of General Edward Braddock's defense line, and George Washington, one of Braddock's aides, was probably here for however short a time. All traces of the fort have long since disappeared; now there's this lovely octagonal stone house on the site. Like Govardhanna Hill, it overlooks West King St.

Music time! How about a little Earth, Wind & Fire live with "In the Stone"?

And then there's the Dave Matthews Band live with "The Stone".

And that's it for this week's theme!
