Scenes from the Macro-World - Gifts from the Earth

Mother Gaea buries many treasures for us to find. There are some that we place great monetary value on. But there are other, simpler treasures buried in the earth as well, treasures that may not shine like diamonds or glow like gold but have a homelier beauty that draws us. These seashells and this necklace of raw amber and wood and turquoise are among those humble gifts from the Earth which may very well be worth more than diamonds or gold.

  1. I am so jealous. I used to have a closeup lens for my old 35mmCanon and now I'm creaming of a digital with both closeup and zoom lens potentials...

I love the tiny bits of the universe.

  2. You're such a fine photographer, Roy, but I think you know that.

  3. Aw shucks, Steph! Well, I'm working on it, anyhow.

Patrice, this was done with a Canon PowerShot S5 IS, which isn't an SLR, but which is the high end of point-and-shoot, so much so that you can go full manual and set everything - aperture, shutter speed, white balance, etc. - yourself. The macro mode in this is built in; I don't need a separate lens. I lke macro shots; especially in the Summer, my usual shooting position is flat on the ground.

  5. Shoot, I have a McGeeism to go with this, but I can't locate it at the moment...I think it comes in The Turquoise Lament, though, which is appropriate!

  6. That necklace is fabulous. I can almost feel the different textures of the beads. Like the words too.
