Providence

I went up to the "big city" today to do some shopping. I brought the camera along (I always bring the camera along), but I wasn't focused on photography. Until this panorama caught my eye on the way back to Kennedy Plaza to catch the bus back to Newport. This is pretty much all of Providence's "skyline", except for the Biltmore and Weston hotels, which are off to the photo's right, and some very tall residential buildings out of the frame to the left. The tall buildings are the financial district, and the buildings in the foreground are part of the old Union Station, which is now a cultural and gastronomic center.

  1. Take out the background buildings and leave the foreground, I say!

  2. Lovely textures in the contrast between the old and the new. Nice shot, Roy.

  3. Funny how the financial buildings are always the tallest and glitziest. Not funny actually.

  4. I love cityscapes... providence's skyline is evocative of cleveland's not surprising as they are similar in size (though it it's heyday cleveland was much bigger), I expect providence isn't bleeding out its population like cleveland is...but I don't know...

you got some spotted birds on tap for tomorrow!

  5. I love that there really is a city called Providence. Our waterfront stores have also been converted into art centres and restaurants.

  6. Whilst the background buildings may not be the most beautiful - they are the city. A living breathing, developing city. Nothing wrong with that.
