My friend Colleen Miranda in Pensacola turned me on to this guy. Bill Wharton, aka The Sauce Boss, is one helluva Delta Blues and roots rock performer. I mean, the man is just good. But he offers more than just good music; during the course of a performance he also cooks up a big pot of gumbo and feeds the audience for free when it's done. He has a non-profit organization called the Planet Gumbo Foundation, and he performs in homeless shelters and disaster sites (he was all over the aftermath of Katrina, playing his music and handing out gumbo) all over the country.
Seriously, check this guy out (you especially, Citizen K - y'all gon' looooooove this guy!). You can visit his Sauce Boss website, the Planet Gumbo Foundation website, and his YouTube page.
And of course you know I won't leave you without some rockin' entertainment. Here are two videos of the Sauce Boss doing his thing, in the first getting the spirit at a performance for Hurricane Katrina relief volunteers, and another in a Washington, DC homeless shelter. Good rockin' music and free gumbo! Man, it just doesn't get any better than that! Yeah you right!
