Folk Meteorology

Folk wisdom has it that sitting cows means rain coming. These cows last Saturday had it exactly right. And they must be sitting again because it's raining again. After the hot and dry July we had, this is good news.

  1. We have had a lot of sitting cows recently as well. I know it has not been the best of summers, but I just wonder whether it may be that cows are getting lazier.

  2. I have always heard that, too...especially if they are sitting under a tree.

  4. I have always heard when the cows group close together that rain is coming. I think the cows might be more reliable than the weatherman :)

  5. My Mum always said that about cows. And I'm sure she was right :)

Mind you, if I came upon a herd of cows sitting near my home it would mean I'd moved and nobody told me! (Would be a big improvement on the looters and rioters, though.)

  6. Well if it was far north here, they'd be sitting for a long, long time! Very peaceful pastoral photograph tho.
