Butterflies, and a Leftover from Yesterday

The butterfly population is picking up. I saw these on the Cliff Walk while taking the scenic route to errands today. The top photo is of a Red Admiral, and the bottom shot is of two Clouded Sulphurs on one of the Cliff Walk's ubiquitous Beach Rose bushes.

I forgot to add one more moment in history for May 10 yesterday. On May 10, 1970, 40 seconds into overtime, Bobby Orr flicked the puck behind the St. Louis Blues goalie to win the Stanley Cup, and then flew through the air in celebration. This is probably the most famous goal in U.S. hockey history. Boston sports fans are hoping for another Orr moment as the Bruins are once again competing in post-season playoffs. Fingers crossed!

  1. That's the same Red Admiral that was at Willow Manor on Sunday afternoon!

  2. The greens in the photograph are so luscious, you almost want to consume them.
Thanks for the link to the White Horse Tavern. That is a must for when I visit Newport next year. Is it anywhere near the cruise ship terminal?

  3. I've seen a few Red Admirals popping up around here too. More and more butterflies are flitting in.

Hockey is a sport I actually know a little about...just a little. Since Matty and Rick play I've learned a few things over the years. I'll be sure to show Matty and Rick this clip.

  4. Thanks everybody!

Alan - It's just up the street from Perrotti Park, where the cruise ship shuttles unload. You're in luck!

Kelly - We have a lot of butterflies at the moment, most of them are just too active for me to catch. While I was shooting the Clouded Sulphurs there was a Cabbage White flitting around. I've actually been seeing (and I think I may have posted a shot here) Mourning Cloaks since early in March.

  5. That's one helluva Zoom there Roy. I can't get them to stay still enough. I enjoy Ice Hockey. They don't play it much here but there's a rink at the end of the road where they play weekends in Summer. Should take the camera for a stroll!
