First Shots with the New Camera

My new camera arrived yesterday - a Canon PowerShot SX510 HS, one of their "bridge" cameras, meaning the bridge between a simple point-and-shoot and a DSLR. That's what my old camera, the one that drowned back in November, was, and this is the latest version of that. I spent some time trying to figure out how to get the shots I used to be able to get with the old camera, and then went to the kitchen to get what I haven't been able to get since November: shots of the birds at my feeder station. Here are the best of that shoot.

  1. You're going to do wonders with the new camera, I'm sure. Love these shots.

  2. Your work with the cell phone has firmly established that your skills are internal, not the equipment. But better equipment is likely to help show it off.

    1. I'll still shoot with the cell phone; I like what I was finally able to get out of it. But this new camera lets me get the shots that are beyond the cell phones limitations, like these bird shots, macro shots, etc. In a way it's kind of nice to have a choice of tools to work with.

  5. Isn't macro the best? I had my little digital for over a year bitching about the lack of detail - and then I found it had a macro setting. My dumb. Well, my ignorant actually. If I would just read the book of instructions...
