Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
And of course there's always the "Winter" suite from Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, here accompanied by a slideshow (not mine) of snow photos.

The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

And now to the videos! It isn't Winter up here in New England until the Boston Pops Orchestra plays Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride". Here's the previous maestro, conductor and composer John Williams, doing the honors, accompanying shots of horses and sleighs in snow.

[Note: The photos are from last year's "Solstice Storm" here in Newport, taken on December 20, 2008, the day after the storm (although as you can see from some of the shots there was still some light snow happening). All shots were taken in Ballard Park.]

Forgive me, Holly King, I called you "Roy" by mistake!
ReplyDeleteI do not like snow up close and personally. It's cold and wet. But the looks of snow is dazzling. I like pictures even more because it has no effect on my own weather.

ReplyDeleteGreat music clips. My dad was a huge fan of the Boston Pops. And the photos, like something out of Narnia.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder Robert Frost was as well celebrated as he is still to this day. Lovely. And, Roy, great photos too. Really, very magical indeed.
ReplyDeleteWow you guys get some snow down there too! funny how we think we are the only ones!
ReplyDeleteWe have about 2 inches on the ground it warmed up after a -30celcius blast and of course snow came with the warmer weather.
Something magical about the stuff although I don't get out as much as I should to play in it!
