And of course, the ultimate late night music, Old Blue Eyes singing Harold Arlen's and Johnny Mercer's "One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)".
The inspiration for this post is Edward Hopper's Nighthawks. And yes, I always hear "One for My Baby" whenever I see that painting. And don't forget to check out the other Theme Thursday posts!

Roy... I especially love the photographs of the window displays...I don't see much of that anymore and miss them ever so much!
ReplyDeleteThat mysterious guy in the Acme Building is quite the photographer!
ReplyDeleteI knew I would love your take on the theme - and I do. And perfect music too. Happy TT Roy,
ReplyDeleteNice - you've really captured that moody, late night feeling.
ReplyDeleteYou Captured The Mood......So Still:So Perfect.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and a perfect Sinatra song. TY!
ReplyDeleteNice photos - loved the Guy Noir.
ReplyDeleteLove it all. You caught 'late' without a doubt.
ReplyDeleteAnother Guy Noir Fan!!! Excellent! Loved the fantastic shots! If I ever decide to do a "Film Noir" style video, you can be the cameraman! Oh, and "One For My Baby" is one of the songs I do on Karaoke Night at my favorite bar.
ReplyDeletewow, that's an oldie for sure. Love the still shots.
ReplyDelete...gorgeous. I feel so peaceful looking at these, and old Blue Eyes fits so well. (I like your hat selection in the right column also. Whenever I see dark shots like these I think of Guy Noir and other gumshoes).
ReplyDeleteLove the grain. Makes it feel like another time.
ReplyDeleteThanks everybody!
ReplyDeleteJill - Bellevue Ave. has lots of display windows like this. It's the higher-end shopping area of Newport, and image is very important.
Tonia - Hey Tonia! Welcome to the blog! Yeah, when I look at stuff like this I always hear a bluesy tenor sax playing a Lester Young riff in the background. The whole time I was out shooting this I had Lady Day singing in my head.
Tony - Thanks. Hey, where's your Theme Thursday post? I seem to be missing those lately!
Jeff - Thanks. That grain was deliberate. Even for night shots I tend to shoot at 85 or 100 ISO, mainly because I like my shots to be sharp and well-defined; probably a side-effect of being nearsighted. But I shot this at 800 ISO specifically because I wanted the grain there for that particularly 1940s film noir feel.
And I'm so glad to see all the Guy Noir fans. Garrison Keillor rules!
Yes, it is. -Jayne
ReplyDeleteMy how late was this? Not a soul about! Great shots of what happens when the sun goes down!
ReplyDeleteLove the whole feel of these!
Some great shots there. I particularly like that first one.
ReplyDeletegreat take on the theme and very evocative of hopper's nighthawks!!
ReplyDeleteNice I still have trouble with night shots what settings do you use. I was hoping the new 50mm would cut it for me without having to get too technical. Fantastic streetscapes Roy.
